How accurate and reliable are our Watches?

Very! Our analogue watches only use the best movements from reknowned Japanese manufacturers.

Seiko Instruments, Seiko Epson, Time Module and Citizen manufactured movements. They are very well-proven, ultra-reliable and very compact. They offer very good battery life and of course, can have replacement batteries fitted at any watch maker and most jewellers.

By using these great manufacturers we minimise the risk of movement failure.

All the watches look great. So how do I judge quality?

All our watches look great new but if your requirements are for the watches to be used in a harsh environment you need to look at the case material and water resistance.

In tough environments like Mining or Agriculture, we recommend using stainless steel cased watches. They waterproof very well and being solid stainless steel are very resistant to signs of wear from abrasion, chemicals and moisture.

Stainless steel will give excellent longevity so is perfect for valued staff gifts, important and respected clients and retail branding.
Brass cases with gold or silver plating also offer good wear and waterproofing. They are plated though and if the environment is tough it may reduce the visual longevity of your watch.

Use alloy-cased watches when they are to be used as a hook for sales, mass giveaways and a low price is important.

Water Proof and Water Resistance?

OK, we have all probably seen markings on watch dials or case backs stating “Water Resistant to 100 meters” or “5ATM Water Resistant” etc, but what does that mean?

When a watch is rated for water resistance it is all based on static pressure ratings. So for example, we would recommend that if you are involved in surfing or the like, where water pressure greatly exceeds the actual depth of water (falling off that monster wave you rode at Bells Beach, as an example) use a watch with 5ATM/50 meter/150 feet water resistance.

See this guide for assistance in deciding what water resistance you need for the watch’s application:

  • Shower Proof – very basic and really you should keep it away from water.
  • 1ATM = 10 meters = 33 feet water resistance. Wash or showering should be ok
  • 3ATM = 30 meters = 100 feet water resistance. All the above and great in a spa ????
  • 5ATM = 50 meter = 150 feet water resistance. Swim, surf, dive, sail. Great quality!
  • 10ATM = 100 meters = 300 feet water resistance. All the above plus very fast motorbikes ????
What makes a watch Underground Mine Safe?

Our Underground Coal Mine Safe Watches are built with solid stainless steel cases with glass case backs. They use an automatic movement that has no battery or electrical power source or reserve.

This lack of electrical current satisfies the Mine Safety requirements for dangerous goods in underground mines that may contain methane gas. So where with a quartz watch you need a Mines Approved Watch, with a non-battery automatic watch it is by nature, mine safe.

We have a glass case back so they can be easily checked at the mine face for Mine Safe compliance. They are all built to 5 ATM – 50 meter – 150 feet water resistance minimum.

Mines Approved Watches?

As we state in the question above, all our underground Mine Safe Watches run automatic movements without batteries. So they do not need Mines Approval to be used in underground coal/methane mines.

Our Underground Mine Safe watches have a glass back so visual inspections can be made to ensure our automatic movements comply with mine safety requirements.

We have manufactured Underground Mine Safe watches for most of the world’s major coal miners such as BHP Billiton, Xstrata, Peabody, Rio Tinto, Vale, DML and many more.

What about Above-Ground Mining Watches?

In an above-ground environment, we can use quartz analogue or digital movements as they do not generally create a danger.

We still only make these watches from quality stainless steel cases and run the best Japanese Seiko and Citizen movements and batteries.

All are well waterproofed and those specifications are shown for each watch model.

What watch features can I customise?

Almost any features you want!
